What is OnePage Genealogy?
OnePage Genealogy puts your entire family tree onto a single large page in a custom, space-efficient format. When a user inputs a GEDCOM file, our OnePage Genealogy software computes an optimal layout for each family line based on user-selected paper size and font preferences. The Adobe .pdf format lends itself to easy browsing and sharing.
Back to topI'm having trouble with your software or I'm having trouble generating a print. What should I do?
If you have not yet referred to the help pages included with our software, please start there. Select the "Help" menu and then "Contents and Index." Locate the topic where you require assistance and read the instructions there. You could also try our software manual. If you are still having trouble, you may contact us here.
Back to topI'm seeing blank lines on my chart where there should be names. What's wrong?
OnePage Genealogy is not always able to display all the names in a pedigree chart because there is not enough room. When this happens, the program will display a line instead of displaying the individual's name and information. To correct this problem, try one or more of the following solutions:
- Increase the chart size
- Decrease the number of generations of ancestry/descendancy
- Decrease the minimum font size
How does OnePage Genealogy solve the problem with fixed-form pedigree charts beyond 10 generations?
OnePage Genealogy takes advantage of the fact that all family trees have incomplete sub-trees. Few lines are traceable past six or eight generations. The program requires much less paper than a fixed-form genealogy chart would because of its unique utilization of space - it only requires space for names that are found in the GEDCOM file. The tree economizes space by forcing every pair of sub-trees as close to each other as possible.

In this example, we see how two separate lines would be laid out in a chart created with OnePage Genealogy. Notice in the second column that John Mack's parents are unknown. The space that would have displayed his parents would be empty space on a fixed-form chart. This space is used by the ancestor above, Mary Stickney. The algorithm used to achieve the results shown is adaptive to each unique set of records and to each user's preferences.
Why would I want to print my genealogy?
OnePage Genealogy charts are great for a number of reasons. Besides the fact that they are fascinating to look at, here are some great reasons to print a chart:
- Wedding Gifts - what better gift to give than to show two families united by marriage on one sheet of paper.
- Family Reunions - show all the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc., of an individual or couple at your family reunion. Even the young ones have a great time finding themselves on the chart!
- Birthday Gifts - let great grandma see how many descendants she has on her 90th birthday.
- Motivate Family History - anyone would be more interested in genealogy after examining one of these charts.
- Research - seeing your family tree on one sheet of paper will help you know what to research. Or, for those new to genealogy, our blank charts are great for getting started.
How much do prints cost?
Because we are part of a non-profit research lab, we are able to do regular prints for the low price of $24.95 with shipping included. This is the lowest price you will find for this kind of service. In addition, you will save 10% on your order of 2 charts and 20% on your order of 3 or more charts. Orders on super heavyweight paper are $10.00 more per chart and receive the same multiple chart discount as regular prints.
Back to topWhat features are available?
- Standard Pedigree Chart - print your entire family tree with you as the root.
- Couple Pedigree Chart - print your and your spouse's family tree showing the two of you as the root.
- Couple Descendancy Chart - print a given couple and all their descendants.
- Hourglass Chart - select any number of descendant and ancestor generations to show for a given couple. Descendants are shown to the left and ancestors to the right, creating an hourglass appearance.
- Timeline Chart - combine any of the previous options with a timeline that indicates when each individual was born, married, and his/her lifespan.
When will my prints arrive?
Once you have successfully placed your order, you can expect it to ship within 1-3 business days by US Postal Service. Shipping normally takes 3-7 days from the time the charts leave our office but can easily vary.
Back to topHow can I contact you if I have any questions?
Because we are full-time students working part-time for a non-profit research lab, our desk is only staffed for a few hours each day, and those hours change from day to day depending on our individual schedules. For this reason, we do not have any phone contacts and the best way to reach us is via our "Contact Us" form. We check this address at least once every business day so response time is quick.
